Generally, we complete Open Water Courses all year round. PADI Open Water gives you an international recognised qualification and licenses you to a maximum depth of 18M. Many beautiful things lay just below the surface, so you don’t have to go that deep in many parts of the world.
When newly qualified, you are often paired with a dive guide whilst you are gaining experience. The beauty of this is that the dive guide knows the area in question like the back of their hand. You need to be 10 years or over to complete the course. The course content is same for an adult and child, but there are certain restrictions placed upon them on qualifying:
- 10-12 years Junior Open Water. Max depth is 12M and must dive with a parent who dives or PADI Professional
- 12-15 years Max depth 18M. Must dive with an Adult, but generally one with more experience too
- Adult Max Depth 18M. Can dive with some of equal ability or higher
There are 3 parts to an Open Water Course: Academics, Pool Modules and Open Water Dives.
Academics
There are 5 academic modules.
E-learning is by far the most popular way of learning them.To do this, each participant needs to provide us with their name, date of birth and an email address. An access code is allocated shortly after.
The advantage of this system is that you can study at any time. There are multiple choice questions to pass, quizzes and a final exam as part of the package.
Alternatively we can issue a conventional Crew Pack which contains Manual, DVD and logbook. With this option you study at home, and then come to the dive centre to review the material, take the tests etc.
Whichever option you choose we are always around to give assistance.
Pool Modules
We base the practical course over the five Modules, which can be scheduled once a week, or more frequently depending on your time commitments and how quickly you were looking to get through.
We normally hire the pool for an in-water time of 1 hour, sometimes up to 1.5 hours. To allow for a briefing session, kit assembly and changing time prior to getting in the pool, we normally meet 40 mins prior to the in-water time. When we get out, we also need around 30 mins to de-kit equipment, shower, change and debrief the skills.
Do keep an open mind regarding the pool sessions, five modules may take 5 x 1 hr slots, but it could take longer. However, we always provide enough time to ensure safety and competency of skills needed and enough staff are allocated for the group.
Open Water Dives
